Grey Mare's Tail
A steep path beside one of Britain's highest waterfalls to a hidden upland loch in the Moffat hills.
Overview
The Grey Mare's Tail is a spectacular 60-metre waterfall plunging from a hanging valley in the wild Moffat hills, one of the highest falls in Britain. A steep but rewarding path climbs alongside it to the lonely Loch Skeen cradled in the hills above.
The lower path is dramatic and the upper section rougher and boggier, so good footwear helps. Wild goats graze the slopes and peregrine falcons nest on the crags. Take care near the unfenced drops, especially with children or dogs.
